Paul Marioni

Paul Marioni

Paul Marioni is one of the earliest members of the Studio Glass movement, with a professional dossier that includes numerous awards, commissions and inclusion into the some of the most prominent art collections around the world.

Paul Marioni is an artist, who has pushed the techniques of working with glass to the limit. He explores themes centred on human nature – what we do and why we do it; human identity; heroes and historical moments; multi-cultural issues and spiritualism without religion. His most recent work delves into the realm of the material itself and its physical possibilities. Glass is a material commonly associated with fragility, but Paul Marioni's kinetic pieces are meant to be touched, rocking back and forth, allowing light to be captured and transmitted in various ways.

"I work with glass for its distinct ability to capture and manipulate light, to create an illusion of motion or three dimensionality in the two dimensional plane, and to create moving light in kinetic glass sculptures. While my techniques are often inventive, they are only in service of the image."
